Kingdom building game online and free: from your first axe to a castle, in the browser
A good kingdom building game starts small: a patch of land, an axe and the urge to grow. You gather resources, raise houses and fields, advance through the ages and, in the end, defend everything you built. In Echoes of Aora it all happens online, free and in your browser, in a world shared with other players.

What is a kingdom building game?
It is a strategy game where you found a settlement and turn it, step by step, into a kingdom: you gather resources, decide what to build first, look after your people and guard the walls. The fun is in the choices. More fields or more towers? Spend the stone now or save it for the next age? When the game is online, your neighbour is a real person too, and that changes everything: you can trade, ally or march on their realm.
What a good kingdom building game needs
- Real resources: wood, stone, food and gold that have to be gathered, not handed out.
- Free placement: you choose where each building goes instead of slotting pieces into a fixed plot.
- People to look after: villagers who work, eat and leave if the food runs out.
- Ages to advance through: each age unlocks new buildings, troops and upgrades.
- Constant threats: a realm nothing attacks is just decoration. Hordes and rivals give the walls a purpose.
- Other players on the same map: alliances, trade and war with real people.
How to build a kingdom in Echoes of Aora
Realms in Echoes of Aora live in the Free Lands, a continent to the south where every mage can raise their own. You get there by boat from Tide Harbor, from level 8. There are no plots: you build on any free patch of land within reach of your own Realm Hall.
- Realm Hall: the root of everything, free to raise, and your first storehouse. It houses the founding families.
- Four resources: wood, stone, food and realm gold, kept in the realm's own storehouse, apart from the mage's bag.
- Gathering by hand: at first your mage chops trees and breaks stone; then come the lumber camp, quarry, farm and gold mine.
- Farming to eat: wood, stone and gold run out in the ground; food is sown and harvested.
- Villagers and houses: every house shelters more people, up to 60 villagers and soldiers in all. Everyone eats.
- Realm Market: swaps resources with each other and with the gold in your bag, with a fee both ways.
From camp to castle: the four ages
A realm grows through ages, and each one asks you to have certain buildings standing before you move on:
- Dark Age: houses, fields and a barracks of militia.
- Feudal Age: opens the archery range, the stable and the first forge upgrades.
- Castle Age: siege workshop, knights, crossbowmen and the university, with research such as ballistics, masonry, architecture and chemistry.
- Imperial Age: the ceiling, with champions, paladins and the last upgrades.
How to defend your kingdom
Your realm defends itself even while you are offline. Towers fire at intruders on their own, walls and gates hold the line and the creatures you leave in the kennel come out to fight. And threats are never far away:
- Hordes of the land: wild beasts, goblins, the undead and barbarians show up from time to time and try to loot the storehouse.
- Wild creatures: aggressive creatures nearby come to claw at your buildings.
- Other mages: from level 11, a player can attack your realm with their troops, loot it, raze it or make it a vassal that pays tribute.
A freshly founded realm with little invested is out of reach of all of this, and after an attack comes a protective shield. Soldiers have classes that counter each other like rock, paper and scissors, and every loss is permanent: whoever falls has to be trained again.
Why build a kingdom online, and not alone?
Because the kingdom is part of a bigger RPG. The same mage who builds also hunts, captures creatures, joins faction wars and fights in real time on the map. Friends can found neighbouring realms and help each other (see free online RPG games to play with friends), and it all runs in the browser, nothing to download (more in free online RPG in your browser).

Frequently asked questions
What is a good free online kingdom building game?
Look for a game with resources to gather, free building placement, ages and other players on the same map. Echoes of Aora is free, runs in the browser and lets every mage raise their own kingdom in the Free Lands.
Do I need to download anything?
No. Echoes of Aora runs straight in the browser on your computer or phone. Just open the site and create an account.
At what level can I build a kingdom?
The boat to the Free Lands leaves Tide Harbor from level 8. There you raise your Realm Hall on any free land.
Can other players attack my kingdom?
Yes, but only mages of level 11 and up, and never a freshly founded realm. After an attack the realm gets a protective shield, and towers and the kennel defend it even while you are offline.
Do I lose my realm resources if my mage dies?
No. The realm's wood, stone, food and gold stay in the realm storehouse, not in the mage's bag.
